    Default Ambien for sexual disorder?

    Hi,

I have a condition called vulvodynia - a neurological pain disorder that is caused by nerve damage in the sympathetic nervous system. Basically, the damaged nerve endings mistake touch for pain. These nerve endings are located in my lady parts.

So, I've been able to reduce the pain somewhat with 75 mg amytriptaline daily (off label for neuralgia) and physio and a few other things. But there is a major issue with arousal, since I have no frame of reference for intercourse being pleasurable, and the pain is still significant. Really, like I didn't even realize until I started getting treatment that I have NO libido anymore. I don't have fantasies. When I was 16, I had fantasies. And I will spare you the long explanation about the viscous cycle, and vaginismus (dont ask), but trust me, arousal is critical to recovery.

Ok this is getting long winded, but I have heard and was wondering if anyone can tell me anything about ambien increasing libido. For the record, I have had major insomnia (I'm talking days without sleeping) and so sleeping pills wouldn't be new to me. Also have just come off of ativan for anxiety and so I know how dependence works, and with both benzos and sleeping pills I have always been responsible and mindful of using them as needed (the benzos did become habit forming after about 2 years but hey, I'm human)

Thank you to any one who read my is long winded plea, I really am suffering as this is ruining my relationships. Any information would be so greatly appreciated. xx!

The elavil (amyatriptaline) says right on the front of it that it can result in loss of sexual interest if you check the search box. Look it up in the search box abovie. It WILL get better after a little time clean. God bless.

    Hi Robert,

I have been off the amitriptalyne since November, when using for neuralgia it is only supposed to be taken for 6 months unless the pain increases when the meds are stopped in which case you give it another 3-6 months. And unfortunately the lack of sex drive pre-dates the amitriptalyne anyway. And unfortunatley, it wont get better in time lol but thank you for your kind words!

...anyone else? Ambien? Sex drive...? HALP!

No explanation needed, I know just how you feel! I was put on effexor in high school, and no one told me loss of libido was a side effect until late in college when I had gone through several boyfriends and the frustration of never being aroused. Many of my doctors were sympathetic but unmoving about addressing the side effect medically.

but it was in and of itself a psychologically damaging experience that I still deal with today. I have been off the antidepressants for several years, but especially for women, the mental handicap is greater can be greater than physiological effects. I did have some success with a doctor who decided to try viagra. I'm not sure if that is recommended with your condition, and it did have some side effects including stuffy nose and becoming very red in the face.

I have taken ambien in the past, so i'm not sure if you mean for sex drive while you are on it, or as a more long-term benefit. I was wary of the drug, besides amnesia to events that occurred during the night, I often found my sensations significantly dulled. While I might be more relaxed for the benefit of my partner, it was a very eerie experience and I ended up informing him when I was taking it so things wouldn't get started before it 'kicked in'

    Hope that helps!

    - K

I always say, there's no better female aphrodisiac then good old alcohol, but I imagine you may have tried that once or twice? A bottle of Champaign should do the trick.
