Default Anxiety: will Lyrica prevail where Neurontin failed?

My pdoc tried me on Neurontin (gabapentin) for my anxiety but it didn't help at all. I'm wondering if it's worth giving Lyrica (pregabalin) a shot. Is there anyone out there for whom Lyrica worked where Neurontin failed?

P.S. I also have chronic pain so if Lyrica had any effect on that it would be an added bonus.

I just got prescribed Lyrica a few days ago for pain in my arthritic knees. Before I take any medications I research them thoroughly.

Everything says Lyrica is mild and low potential for abuse.

I COMPLETELY disagree with everything I have read on this or somehow this medicine effects me differently than others.

My Doc told me to take 1 50 MG pill, 3 times a day. Im telling ya this stuff is as effective for me as Hydrocodone or Oxycontin that he previously had me on.

It definitely wipes out my knee and foot pain and is stronger than Drs. and companies let on.

I think 1 pill a day would definitely help people with anxiety disorders, and regular dosing like mine DEFINITELY eliminates moderate to severe pain.

Very fast acting and hits ya with pain relief quickly. I had never heard of this medicine before, but im glad my new doc prescribed it for me. My knees feel better than they have in 10 years.

Had you tried Neurontin (gabapentin) previosly, before you tried Lyrica?

No. I have never tried neurontin. Before I finally got Lyrcia a few days ago, doctors were always prescribing my hydrocodone or oxycontin or Skelaxin for my lower extremity pains.

Im not sure what you are asking. Are you wondering if Lyrica is stronger or as effective as Neurontin? That I dont know.

I know its very effective for my chronic knee/foot pain. I wish I had found out about this years ago, but for years Docs were always giving my hydrocodone type stuff, which is effective but has too much acetaminophine.

Lyrica is very effective medicine IMO. I dont feel any pain in my knee as I type this right now, and have general feeling of calmness.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I'll ask my doctor about possibly giving Lyrica a try.

No problem. Just be careful with it. It is stronger than the official information says about it on most websites. I dont know how, but it is.

If you taking if just for anxiety, I would say just take one pill in morning.

Why don't you take Klonopin or Xanax for anxiety???

Because those types of drugs (benzodiazepines) lose their effectiveness over time. I'm currently taking Valium. It started out working great, but now it doesn't work anymore. So I'm searching for alternatives and Lyrica might be promising.

I take Klonopin for anxiety and have for 4 years now. I go through a cycle of tapering off, then starting back on it, then tapering off to lower dosage, then starting back on back to maximum dosage. That way your body doesnt get used to it.

I would be surprised if a Doc prescribed Lyrica for anxiety. Seriously I took 2 pills of 50 MG, and I couldnt even walk straight from my bedroom to my kitchen. Im 6'0 225 and even Oxy didn't effect me this way.

Lyrica also has the possibility of helping with my chronic pain.

Cool, but just be careful with it as any other of these drugs.

Hi there, not sure if this will be helpful or not, I tried Lyrica for a short period- 2 weeks - and experienced weight gain right away, but apart from that, it seemed to help with the anxiety, and really helped with the pain. I stopped and went onto Neurontin which really works for me...no side effects etc. People react differently to drugs, best check with your doctor, he/she may agree to a trial of Lyrica. Good luck.
