Plavix (clopidogrel) is a platelet aggregation inhibitor which works by decreasing the blood’s ability to clot (clump together). Plavix works differently to the anticoagulants such as warfarin, which work by partially blocking the liver’s use of Vitamin K, which is an essential nutrient needed to make clotting factors and prevent bleeding.

Foods rich in Vitamin K can reduce the effectiveness of warfarin. Vitamin K is found naturally in leafy, green vegetables, such as broccoli, cabbage and spinach. When taking anticoagulants such as wafarin it is important that the amount of Vitamin K in the diet remains consistent.

The effectiveness of Plavix is not influenced by vitamin K intake.
