Why is your cat eating too fast? What are you feeding him? Maybe you could try giving him small amounts first. Smaller amounts but more often.

I wish I saw this earlier so sorry but I have lots of experience with kittens and cats. So your cat is probably experiencing some anxiety. He's manifesting it in a relatively common way and the solution is pretty simple. No more free feeding. Just feed him a small amount, a little less than he normally eats, and do it when he starts crying for food. He'll get some comfort from the routine.

The other possibility is a stomach problem. Could be anything from acid reflux to cancer. If solution one does not work, go to your vet and have your cat checked out.

I don't see how a cat eats so fast, maybe a dog will do.

I have several cats. One of them eats too fast as well. We finally realized it was because she seemed to think if she didn't hurry up and eat that the others would eat up all the food. Our solution was to keep a bowl (with a lid) in the bathroom. Whenever we went in she would follow. Regardless of why we were in there (brushing teeth, showering) we would shut the door and take the lid off and she no longer felt threatened about not getting any. Another thing you could try is a bowl, actually made for dogs, that has a thing in the middle of the bowl that leaves only space for food is the outer perimeter. It slows down their eating cause first of all the bowl holds less food and with this "post like" thing in the middle it makes it harder for them to get food. If you wanted to buy one you might have to look where the dog bowls are, not the kitty bowls. We used these bowls for one of our dogs who always felt like he had to eat fast and it worked for us. I never actually used one for our cats but I would think it could work. They come in all different sizes. It might be worth a try.
