Talking Possible Yeast infection in one ear? HELP!

I have a 8 year old Yorkie who has a possible yeast infection not sure though. It smells at times, other times it does not, sometimes it appears red, other times it does not. My biggest concern is if I look in the left ear it's very healthy looking, if I look in the right it appears it has little knots in it that are red, possibly inflamed, sometimes I get white-ish, yellowish stuff to come out of it. It even feels as if he's got a knot behind that ear like it's a growth, I'm stumped, my vet has done nothing but give us Otic Clear to keep it cleaned out, then I wait for a few hours and add some Mometamax ointment. Does not seem to be helping, so I am looking for any one who maybe has had the same thing and looking just for any input. Our vet has never said anything about taking him to a specialist, I did get a second opinion but he said it was nothing to worry about, but I do worry, he's like my child! He's my baby boy and I want it to get better, I'm just at a loss at what to do. Anyone??????? please????????//

Ear infections in dogs, if left undiagnosed and properly treated can become a serious issue. Dogs ears are divided into two canals. A vertical ear canal, followed by a horizontal ear canal. Visualizing the entire canal can be difficult. If you live near a veterinary school, they often have specialty clinicians that have more advanced equipment and up to the minute treatments. What you are describing could be a number of things, but if they are causing discomfort and omitting a foul odor, then its worth going further to find an answer. You may have to drive a ways to get to a specialist, but you will know that you have done everything you could to make your friend more comfortable.
