    Default Going off Oxycodone

So, a bit about me...my story, after a double mastectomy and currently going thru bilateral latisimus dorsi donor sites breast reconstruction, three surgeries in 1.5 years with complications and unbearable pain, and set to have another revision surgery soon I've been on oxycodne. I've never taken drugs, I actually have a huge drug phobia. I don't like the feeling of being 'high'. I'm also a very small petite type 1 juvenile diabetic so all this is extremely difficult on my body. I've been on oxycodone for 1.5 years now... 5 mg tabs 3 to 4 x's per day (total of 15 - 20 mgs daily). I may initially after inpatient surgeries had higher doses got a 'high' from it but it wasn't anything that I really liked. I guess I don't understand the draw to this drug, why would ANYONE take it if they're not in pain. It's actually a nightmare for those of us who are suffering terribly to get the medications due to the abuse of it.

I've tried every from of PT, pain specialists, TPIs, etc...and nothing has worked as my entire latisimus dorsi muscle, tissue and all my fat has been bilaterally removed from my back and I can hardly move now. Anyway, my pain doctor says I'm on a very low dose, I've never asked to increase it b/c I come on these boards and am horrified of what is going to happen to me. It doesn't work as well as it did, of course...but I'm so scared to take more. Those without pain have really done a great damage to us whom actually have severe chronic pain, devastating pain.

I decided to try and do this without pain meds, as I'm so afraid of this drug and have been so horrified, after reading thru this thread of horrible withdrawals. I've been OFF oxycodone now for 6 days, tomorrow will be my 7th and NONE of what is listed here in terms of w/drawls has happened to me. I feel nothing other than unbearable pain that OTC will not touch. So, I think I just wanted to say this. There is SO MUCH fear surrounding these drugs when those of us whom are truly suffering need them and don't abuse them. If one is using them for pain, I don't think one gets high...? I have had no withdrawl symptoms either.

    Thanks!

    Thumbs up

I have to say... I’m so sorry for all that you are dealing with in life but your post gives me hope. I’ve been taking oxycodone 10 mg tabs for a few months now. Previously it was tramadol for a year and a half. I’ve been dealing with chronic pelvic pain due to female issues as well and never previously enjoyed the way pain pills made me feel. For me, they’ve been a means to an end because my pain was becoming so severe I was unable to function and work without some sort of relief. I had a hysterectomy 11 days ago and I am starting to feel quite a bit less pain than before and I know that at some point soon I will be ready to come off of them. I am taking a Max dose of 30 mg per day, sometimes 20 if the pain is low enough. I’ve been so deathly afraid of attempting to quit due to all of the horror stories I’ve come across. While I have felt minor withdrawal symptoms after 12 hours with no dose and do believe I’m likely to experience something, at least I can go into it without being quite so afraid.
