    Default Methadone confusion

    Hello all,

This is my first time posting to the forum but I've been reading it for awhile.

So here is my situation. I have a bulged disc at L3. A 50% compression fracture at L4 and a 25% compression fracture at L5. (It's a long story) I've been dealing with this pain for about 4 years. I started out with just norco and over time with a pain management specialist I've worked my way up to .5 Fent. One patch every two days and for the break through pain they cycle me with either 90 oxy or Dilaudid. Recently I got the okay from my Oncologist to have an epidural steroid injection and it has helped tremendously. With that being said I've been talking to my doctor about getting off all the opiates and I mentioned how I want as much help as possible to get through the withdrawals. He has mentioned Methadone so I started researching it online. All the comments on this stuff are all over the place. Some people say its evil while others say it was a miracle drug. I'm a little Leary about taking it but I really want off the opiates and I'd like to avoid as much of the withdrawals pains as possible. What are some of your thoughts on my situation?

Welcome to the forums MLP. Have you given any thoughts to instead of methadone using suboxone? Plenty of members here have been on both to get off opiate use and from what I have read they say getting off suboxone is easier then methadone. Suboxone is a great tool to use to get off opiates and theres a taper plan here that thousands have used to wean themselves off with. Just a suggestion you might want to consider.

Thank you for the suggestion. My pain management doctor was the one who told me he was going to use methadone on me. I'm not sure how he would respond if I brought it up but I guess it is worth a try.

Only way to find how he will respond is to mention it to him. Both methadone and suboxone are addictive and from tons of threads I have read on this site tapering off suboxone opposed to methadone is easier and also you can taper off subs quicker. If he would agree to putting you on suboxone for your own good post it here and there are several members here who will work with you. Your Dr might not have a license to prescribe suboxone though so I guess you need to find out that first. Let us know here if he does and we can take it from there. My best wishes to you.
