Default Trying to wean off oxycodone.

New here, hope someone can guide me in the right Direction.I've been taking 10mg of Oxycodone for about a month or even less!, about two days a ago, I had foot Surgery, the pain wasn't that bad so into Two weeks I decided to just stopping them. A day later I woke up about 4:am with sweating. I didn't know what was going on. Then I started reading onow line about oxycodone. I was terrified at work hours reading. So I started a slow tapering. I've been cutting the 10mg in half for the last few days. Now I'm taking those and cutting them in half. Hope I'm doing it right! I want off these crazy pills. It's amazing how quickly YR body gets use to them. I wish for those on a much higher dose and taking for quite some time, I'm sending you prayers and hoping for a speedy recovery.
    Thank you all!

Please clarify to better help you, you have been taking oxycodone for only 1 month, maybe less? They are 10mg pills, how many pills per day?

Ok, got it. If you want to taper you should taper a bit slower than you are. Just taper by 25% @ the most every 5-7 days, you can adjust the taper faster or slower depending on how you feel? Tapering has to be done slow enough to avoid or at least minimize any withdrawal symptoms, if you taper too fast or by too much you'll be in a constant state of mild withdrawal throughout the entire taper. If you wanted to cold turkey you could be done with this in less than a week! For the amount you are taking and only taking it for a month your withdrawal symptoms should be fairly mild and last maybe 4-5 days at the most? I know you said you have read a lot about oxycodone withdrawal but I assure you that any horror stories you have read has to do with people taking way more than you and for a lot longer than you as well! Don't be scared, your mind will make it worse than it really is! Generally it is easier just to stop cold turkey but if you want to taper then that's okay too, it will just take longer to get off the meds. I'm confident that you'll do just fine! Keep us updated? If you have any more questions and/or concerns just ask? Good luck... God bless us all!

    Kay,

Just stop. You're taking a total of 10mg/day for the past week? Just stop. I can almost guarantee that most of what you're going to experience will be your mind messing with you. Take Aleve for any pain that your foot causes you. Try to stay busy to keep your mind off of things. I just read your other posts and I completely agree with Ricky. The horror stories you read aren't even in the same ballpark as what you're dealing with. Try not to wait for and look for any symptoms. Find a good book or begin a project that will keep you occupied. At the amount you're taking even if you do get some mild symptoms, they'll be over with in 2 or 3 days and they shouldn't be bad at all. The sooner you can get rid of them and stop, the better off you'll be.

    Peace,

    Cat

Hey Kaylinda, it will be ok! It just takes a while for our bodies to adjust to being off the meds. While we go through similar experiences, we all metabolize things differently so just have to give our bodies, and minds, time to heal at their own pace. The bouncing back and forth between feeling good and not is just all part of it. It will level out, and hopefully will level out for you soon. CONGRATS on getting through your first week already, that alone is a huge accomplishment!! Just keep hanging in there because it will get better!!

Hi Kaylinda, I as well will guarantee you it will level out pretty soon until your body starts to produce it's own endorphins again. I for myself was an a daily dosage of Oxys between 500-700mg daily.. For over 3 years now
So I found this place here as well to get help and support.. I was tapering down the last two weeks down to about 250mg's which alone was no fun as you can imagine.. Then I tried CT and could stand it for about 45hours before I just was about to pass out, my circulation and blood pressure was on a very dangerous level to keep doing that at home and I as well got advice from some really great people here that I need to keep tapering down for a way longer time and theb stabilise and a dosage (I am aiming at 20-40mg) and then maybe 10mg a day before I kick off the rest out of my system.

I really do know how you feel, believe me and you can be proud that you accomplished more then a week already. I really wish I'd be there already as well
.. :/ So just admit yourself to be proud of what you accomplished already and what you went through! Congrats from me as well. You will be just fine pretty pretty soon!! That dosage and the duration you took them is really not that bad, but as you said it's unbelievable how fast your body gets used to them and ask for more once you stop taking them. They are evil damn fakk1ng Pills.!

Which ones are you taking exactly? OC's or OP's from Purdue? What very few people know is that about 30% of the active components are released within the first 10-15mins, even though they are time released formulated - at least the original OC's are like that.

I hope you are start to feeling better, what you should do if you can is some mild exercise, maybe a 20mins jog, bicycle, swimming etc.. That helps to keep start your own bodies endorphin production. Let us know how your are doing and all the strength and best wishes to you.!!

I'm feeling ok today a little scared bc I took those but I hope to God I didn't put myself bk in harms way! I'm Done! I start bk to work tomorrow and I don't need to deal with anything but my job pray for me and please tell me I didn't mess up!???? Ibuprofen or Advil it will be.I'll check bk in and let you know how I'm doing. God bless each of you who are dealing with this evil medicine.

Hi Kaylinda, It would say you don't have to worry even though I have to be honest and say that I can't understand why you took a half again after 9 days without and then another half one more time. When exercise like walking still hurts its maybe better think of another type which does not strains your foot to much to avoid pain.
Of course I am no specialist or professional but I would assume that in your case it's more a mental then a pysical thing. The pysical w/d's you passed successfully after 9 days already and I am happy for you to repeat that you can be proud of yourself for that you accomplished that. Plus the duration and amount was still on a low level so that the w/d's you went through I'd assume was more the fear of the w/d's, but since you passed that already it doesn't matter any longer anyhow
Oh boi, what would I wish to be were you are already.. But my fight is still in front of me and unfortunately will be way worse but I know I will succeed as well, because I want it.. But one thing at a time, I need to allow me to give just some more time.. Also it's easier pulling that through in the spring and/or summer than in the fakk1ng fall or winter. For those of us dealing with waaaay way higher dosages and longer duration of use and abuse it makes a difference when it comes to the depressional part.. Also when benzos are in the game as well.. But I am drifting away a little here

You will be just fine! And taking two times 5mg's won't have an effect of any withdrawal. That part is (or at least) should be over already..!!

What you can do to make the world a little better is to give a warning to people you know who might come for whatever reason in the same position that they're planned on get medicated with Oxycodone, so that they don't have to deal with that in the first place. Oxys or other high potent WHO Class III drugs are over prescribed to much and to fast in my humble opinion anyway..

Okiiidokii.. Let us know how you are feeling today!!
